What is the purpose of the app?
The app helps patients confidently track and manage their palatal expander (RPE) treatment. Patients are guided through image taking series and instructed how to capture high-quality records with their smartphone. Patients can also share their images and turn history with their provider through the app, allowing providers to see progress in-real time.
How does the patient get the V5x and the app?
The V5x kit is shipped to the provider’s office with the patient’s RPE. At the insertion appointment, the provider hands the V5x kit to the patient. Inside the box, there is a QR code to download the app and a label with the patient’s unique ID number, which is necessary for logging into the app. This ensures that each patient has secure, personalized access to their data.
How often does the patient take photos?
Patients can take photos as often as they want. There is no set schedule from the app itself for capturing RPE photos, giving patients flexibility in their monitoring routine. However, it is up to the provider to establish a photo submission schedule with the patient. To facilitate this, the V5x box includes a card where providers can specify how frequently they want images shared to their provided email address.
How do patients and their doctors communicate?
Patients are responsible for capturing images and sending photos to their provider, as directed by the provider. Once the provider reviews the images, they will communicate any additional instructions or adjustments to the patient directly. The V5x app serves as a tool for tracking and sharing data, but the clinical management and communication remain in the hands of the provider and patient.

The V5x device includes the phone clip attachment, lip retractor(s), and cheek retractor(s). These are used in tandem with your patients smartphone (iPhone and Android supported) to take and send record images and expander turn data.
